The new beauty standard

In the short time that the Obamas have been in the white house there have already been numerous articals highlighting the first families contribution to the new look of  Black Families. Effortlesly lifting the sterotypes of black housholds being seen only as broken-homes troubled with absentee fathers.  Or as functional families only withn the scope of televison enterainment purposes. Not that the black community dosen’t have socioeconomic problems it needs to address, but for far to long black families have been seen by the world through a prism of stereotypes and exagurations. The Obamas are challenging that stigma and illustrating an intellectual, photogenic, and down to earth American household.  Now, with one more step toward that very causes Michelle Obama will grace the front cover of  the latest issue of Vogue magazine. She stands not only as a role model and fashonista to young African American women but to women and men the world over. Proving yet again that our women don’t need to be over sexualized and exploited to be notice, but rather that intellect and modesty is something to be cherished.

  • well said! i love the “look” of the new first family!! I tear up when i see them on tv. I think towards the future and can’t wait until Addison is sitting in some 3rd grade classroom and sees a presdident that looks like her :) For that, I am truly humbled.

Michelle is beautiful, inside and out. She will be an icon for all of us: black, white, mixed, men, women.
