I came across this spot that Dare Digital, an interactive and digital marketing agency in London, did for the FA to help promote grass roots soccer organizations. Encouraging players to join in the English pastime and join a local club at any level of skill. The spot is a response to ailments of the FA viewer-ship such as the significant drop off of participation of 16 to 18 year olds in organized leagues.

Simply put, I love this spot! It hits at the very essence and heart of what its like to play on a local club. The camaraderie among teammates, the arguments with opponents, the sarcasm of your coach, the feeling of being grossly out of shape, the long car trips, the before game pranks, and the little bit of fame that comes with being the match hero are all illustrated beautifully without any need for words!

Although their quite similar, I like this spot more than the Nike Soccer spots because this one gets to the heart of the true fan. Highlighting the emotional connection of imitating your favorite players on your own pitch.  It’s much more of an inspirational communication that almost celebrates the fan as the real hero of the FA.  Perhaps the spot is really preaching to the choir, and I’m a little biased in my praise due to the fact that I’m a huge English soccer fan and play any chance I get.  Either way you look at it I think it’s a remarkable creative execution based upon solid strategic insights of the true nature of what it means to be apart of a local club.
